Artist statement
Photography was always a huge part of my life, my dad captured every moment of my childhood. There's this drawer that exists in my home, of an extraordinary collection of photographs in my home, capturing my father's youth. I've always had an interest in preserving the drama and the vibrancy of life through photos.

Using photography as a means to create work happened through my first interdisciplinary practice, where I used it in playful manner to capture the chaotic moments that happen in cities. I used these contemporary photos to create classical compositions, looking to techniques used by painters in the baroque and renaissance periods. While their narratives often focused on something biblical, my work explored a humor and a staged story. My images were edited, they created this liveliness. I wanted to portray the chaos of modern lives in cities and how its people act.
This work lead me to where my practice takes off now. Realizing how important, photography and capturing people was. How photography plays a huge part in my day-to-day life
I looked to a huge source of inspiration for me, My generation is obsessed with capturing lives through photos. I find the need to document everything. I have inherited this from my father.

My work now focuses on whether we create memories by taking photographs. For looking at older processes of photography, taking photos unknowing of what they might be, the waiting for film to develop, the processes of sending it away and maybe finding nothing but blurry photos. To the modern, fast paced, snappy way in which we document our lives now. I use painting to compare these processes, bringing more attention to each photo and giving it physical space, because otherwise they're trapped in that drawer or stuck in my phone..
